The boy named Nathan

Once there was a child named Nathan, who is very close to God. Even though his family is poor, he still gives time to pray and worship God because he belongs to a loving family. This young man is very brilliant; he passes all his exams, recites actively in class and even tutors his friends without asking anything in return. This made him so loved by his family and peers because he doesn’t only have a great mind but also a compassionate heart.

Life for him can be compared to a heavenly paradise because of God’s gift to him; a family that loves and cares for him, friends that adore him and the Lord God that always supports him. Also, this is where he gets the ability to help people. As a matter of fact, for him, the thanks and praise that he gets is what feeds his body and heart. In addition to that, his day is not complete if he doesn’t offer these good things that he did to God before he sleeps.

But all these things change when his family experience huge problems before he graduate in grade school. His father lost his job; his mother was in a critical condition of pregnancy and tax collectors are pressuring them to pay all of their debts in high interest. This became a threat to his scholarship for high school and his chance to be the valedictorian of their batch. And what makes the situation worst is that his father got terribly ill.

At this point of time, he wants to give up. In a stormy night, he runs in rage to the church and start blaming God of the things that are happening to him and to his family. He kept on shouting, asking the Lord, “Why?” then he started to cry. At the back of the scene, the parish priest gently asked him, “Now, my child, don’t blame God about the things you’re experiencing right now. From the looks of it, you’re a lost lamb.” Then the child knelt down while crying, realizing that blaming God won’t change the fact these things happened. The priest continues his preach, “What is happening to you right now is just a test of how much you love God. Always remember that everything happens for a reason and God will always be right by your side. He will guide you and he will never forsake you.” After being enlightened, he stood up, thanks the priest then bowed in front of the altar apologizing to God. When he got home, he invited his family and altogether they prayed.

The next day, they worked hard to solve their problems. Then before the day end, good news awaits them. The father got his job back, he passed all his final exams and his mother gave birth to his younger sister safely. This made him realized that nothing is impossible with God.

Graduation day, all of them are happy. This is the day when he received his diploma as proof of his completion of his primary education and he was recognized as the valedictorian of his batch. All went well; he was given a full scholarship in high school and in college for his consistent achievement in class. Today, he is now one of greatest business men in the country but even though he is successful now, he never forgets to look back and thank the Lord our God.

Writers note: The name Nathan came from the name Nathaniel with means the gift of God.

This is the story brings back good memories because I made this for my dear friend.
