State of the Nation Address (SONA)
My dear citizens of the Philippines:
Realizing the reason why I’m standing here in front you today is the big responsibility makes me feel proud and honoured to be you’re 16th president in our republic. I swear to provide truth and development to our country with of course the help of the supporting pillars of our good Philippine government and you, the everyday hardworking Filipino people, to make our goals and dreams of a bright future into a reality.
A few years back, I’m still like you. A typical Filipino citizen who is just making a living to provide my family and myself our basics needs but guess what, as your newly elected president, my family is now you, every single citizen of the Philippines whether you’re tall or short, rich or poor, educated or not, we are now one with each other. Our Filipino blood flows in our veins making us one strong and united country that will lead us to success. With a little Bayanihan and an open heart to work, nothing can stop us to build the Nation we all dreamt of.
They say that the Philippine Government is corrupt and bias. Well guess what, now is the time to change that perspective. I believe that the only key to stop the corrupted ways is just a little touch of transparency in every government investment or transactions. According to the “Sunshine principle”, corruption happens when there is no transparency. Corruption is done hidden and simultaneously and by exposing it, we can eliminate it together. To make this possible, I personally designate a Transparency Commission with the help of the Government watch (G watch) and the Global Youth Anti-Corruption (GYAC) with the use of social accountability to monitor every single coin in the government’s fund with the help our trusty broadcasting networks either the television or the radio industry so that every Filipino will know that there is no money wasted in corrupted ways. To make this worthwhile, I will strictly ask the liquidation of the expenses of every government departments including the PNP and the Arm forces of the Philippines. By doing so, we can regain your trust, dear citizens and wipe out the word corruption in our government so we can have a clean politics here in the Philippines.
Bearing in mind that our country is an agricultural country, I will not forget we depend on our natural resources to improve our economy so what I lined up in my plans for the country is that I will give land reforms in our ever hardworking Filipino farmers by re-establishing the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CAR) of former president Corazon Aquino so that every farmer will have their own land where they can freely plant and harvest their crops. I know that our farmers will not let us down to provide us one of our basic needs which is food and that they can help our economy by exporting their products. I believe that hardwork and a little hand-in-hand will do the trick to make this possible so therefore I will assign the secretary of the Department of Agrarian Reforms to firmly supervise this project.
Another issue that I will resolve is the fact that a lot of our Filipino Professionals and workers are going overseas just to get a job that suits their needs and qualifications which is what we call the Brain and Brawn Drain. Research proves that everyday hundreds of Filipinos are taking a plane to get to different countries just to have a work that offers them a good salary and the sad part is, most of them falls under illegal recruitment. So we have planned a solution to stop this problem. What we will establish good business capitals here in our country just like what former Vice president Jejomar Binay did for his city of Makati back then when he is still its mayor. By doing so, we can attract more multinational companies to invest in our country so we can offer each Filipino the jobs they need so that they won’t have to spend a lot of money filing for work abroad. To make this possible, we just need to bear in mind the ideals of friendly completion, hardwork, perseverance and unity.
Now that the issue of migration is over, we should also remember one slight detail in the work flow of the Filipino people. Well of course no one would work properly if the salary and benefits of our workers is not enough to sustain their living. In the past few years we have a lot of issues where there are a lot of workers are protesting that their salary is below minimum wage. Well now, I’m standardizing all the benefits and salary of our workers even if you’re a policeman, a teacher or a street sweeper. I am glad to tell you that the senate is now making it a law so any violation to this will surely suffer the consequences because it is the rights of our workers which is in the line hear and we just can’t let that happen. Well of course we need to return the favour given to us by our workers in the government and private sector which answers the call of our needs.
Since we are planning to have a Transparency Commission, we can be sure that there is enough money to improve and develop our establishments here in the Philippines. We can now build more bridges, ports, skyways, pipelines and much more to make the lives of citizens of the Philippines more comfortable. By this we can now also develop our very own tourism spots here in the Philippines.
Citizens of the Philippines, the problem in poverty and hunger will soon be over. “Walang Mahirap kung Walang Korrupt”, a message of our former president Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III in his first state of the nation address and it is now time to make that phrase into a reality. And what we need is very clear and that is Social Accountability which we are now going to implement in our government and society. I recently came up with the formula to do so and that is SAc = CCE (SD + W + R) where social accountability is equals to Citizen’s constructive Engagement multiplied by Service delivery + Welfare protection + rights promotion and this is what we are going to follow so the Filipino people can rest assure that they are in good hands.
People of the Philippines, it is now time for the change we are all waiting for. Now we have the answer, we just need to make it happen by collaboration of both the government and you, that citizen of our beloved country. It is now time to act and together we can make the difference.
Thank you..
Writer’s note: this SONA is situated after the term of our current Philippine President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III and this is my project in my Philippine History class so don't ask why I posted this :) Thank you for reading
