It is another lonely day for a walk in the park. Aria is once again depressed because of she feels that she’s an outcast. Wishing that she could run away from her problems, she went to her favourite resting place near the river stream where she could find peace. In there, she reflected the reasons why she is treated differently from the other children. It is because most of the people in their village are afraid of her ability to read their thoughts through telekinesis and for that; she is treated as a witch. Because of her gift, it is hard for her to socialize with others. Thinking about this made her madder to herself so she smashed the ground really hard continuously until she totally lose it.
From afar, Jieniel, her only friend approached her and hugged her until she cooled down. After a few moments of peace, Aria slapped him because of what he has done.
“What came to your mind hugging me like that?”
“Well, you’re acting crazy again so I have no choice but to that”
Aria blushed after she heard Jieniel’s explanation.
“Th ... ank ... y ..ou”
After clearing her mind from all of her problems, she looked at the sky and appreciated its beauty and while doing so, she saw a weird looking egg. Due to her curiosity, she came near the egg that got stuck in a log at the side of the stream. Jieniel is puzzled of where Aria is going so he followed her.
“Hey what do you have there?”
“It’s an egg”
“Yeah, I know, I can see that but do you have any idea what kind of egg is that?”
“It’s like an ostrich egg but that’s impossible because there are no ostriches here in the Philippines.”
The 2 teenagers are really confused about the egg that they’ve found so Aria proposed that they should bring it in her house. Jieniel thought that her idea is stupid and that they should have just leave the egg so Aria immediately slapped him again because she knew what he was thinking exactly.
“Ouch!”
“You can never hide anything from me. Remember that”
“Alright, sorry so by the way, what do you want to do about it?”
“Hummp”
Aria doesn’t actually know what to do with the egg so she told Jieniel that she will just keep it as her own so she went home carrying it across the village. This freaked out the villagers that they started throwing pebbles and tomatoes at her. So she ran away as fast as she could to protect herself and the egg that she had found. Finally, she manage to arrive at her house which is as quiet as it was because she’s the only one living there after both of her parents died in an accident.
“Don’t worry little fella, I’m going to protect you. We’re safe here”
She placed it in her old crib that she found in her attic. While looking at the egg, she can’t stop thinking about what kind of egg is it or what’s inside of it so she stated on tapping the egg but it’s so hard that it won’t even break.
“It’s really a weird egg but at least, I’m not the only one who is weird anymore”
Aria felt kind of relieved that now she have something that resembles her.
Night falls and it’s to sleep so Aria said her good night to her egg, hoping that it will soon hatch.
Morning came and Aria was shocked to see that the egg hatched but she cannot where exactly the bird or thing that is inside of that egg is. At this point, she is being paranoid because she can’t even sense the presence of the creature that should be inside of her egg. Then all of a sudden, someone tapped her back.
“Jieniel, stop fooling around!”
But unfortunately, it’s not him. She slowly turned around and saw that it’s a girl that looks exactly like her. She could not believe her eyes because it’s like she’s looking at her reflection in a mirror.
“Who are you?”
In deep confusion, she pushed her duplicate self and she was shocked when it slowly turned to a jelly like creature while it falls. It turned out that it’s a shape shifter, a jolly shape shifter that keeps on transforming in her eyes. Aria pinched herself, trying to believe that she’s still in a deep sleep but whatever she do, it keeps on changing and changing until it transforms again to herself. At this point of time, she already realized that she adopted an extra-ordinary creature that she will share a life time friendship.
With eternal happiness running to Aria for the first time, she carried her shape shifter at its original form as a cute little jelly like rounded creature. She never felt so happier in her life so she named her Makaila even though if her shape shifter is a girl or not. From out of the blue, she has sensed the arrival of her friend so she asked her Makaila to help her pull a small trick.
“Knock, knock, knock”
“Hey Aria, it’s me, Jieniel”
When Jieniel was about to enter the house, Aria tapped his back.
“Huh? If you’re here, then who opened the door”
Aria, pointed at someone at the door and when Jieniel looked at it, he saw Makaila, transformed as Aria. This shocked the young lad that made him faint because of what he saw.
“Hummp ... Maybe we went a little bit too far”
Makaila just smile at Aria because it still can’t talk as of the moment.
As Jieniel wakes up, Makaila is already in a form of a dove at Aria’s shoulder and as he stands up, Makaila transforms as him and shook his hands. This really freaked out the lad and is now totally speechless.
“Here let me explain, this is Makaila, my shape shifter”
“Huh! Aria don’t tell that you’re really a witch than created this creature”
“Arrf arrff”
Makaila transforms into a dog.
“Whoo..”
“As I was saying, she came from that egg that we’ve found at the park”
“Yeah, I can see that but don’t you think that the villagers will be more afraid of you because of her? I mean, you already posses a weird gift and now this. What if the villagers found out about this?”
“I know that this will be hard for you to understand but we have something in common. We are born different, one of the kind. Special as what you always say and we share the same pain”
“What do you mean?”
“I have to tell you the truth, my parents didn’t die in an accident, they left me because they are afraid of me and even though I can’t read Makaila’s thoughts, I can still feel that she’s as lonely as I am.”
“Ohhh... I’m sorry”
“Don’t be, I mean I’m glad that I have a friend like you and now I have another friend that I know is as loyal as you do and I know that you will keep her a secret. I trust you.”
Makaila transforms to Aria again then hugged her.
“You know, I’m really puzzled why I got hooked with you in the first because there are times that you’re very far and lonely and also there are times that you are being so violent when you’re reading what’s inside my mind but now I’m really happy for you and look, you two are like twins.”
